“A Long Way Down” by Nick Hornby

I’ve never seen a Nick Hornby written movie I didn’t like…seriously. So while I was browsing the library I decided to try out his novels. This was the only one on the shelf at my little library, but I’m not disappointed. I was glad to read one of his stories that I’ve never heard (though I would love to read High Fidelity or About A Boy). Now this is not a spoiler, because it is revealed in the first few pages, but the book is about four completely different people who meet on a roof while attempting to kill themselves. You quickly find out that they don’t, and the point of the story is what happens afterward. Told through first person accounts of all four protagonists, Nick Hornby gives you four completely different voices with unique personalities and interesting stories. Greatest part about it? It’s not the same old woe is me, suicide is cool stories, it’s witty and heartfelt. Do I recommend reading it: Yes.
