This book is great, and I’ll tell you why.  Even if you’re not a Steve Martin fan, (though I don’t know how that could be true) you will be after reading this book.  It’s an autobiography written about his life up until the day he quit doing stand-up.  It’s the dirt.  Stories of working at Disneyland, being poor in San Francisco, dating famous people (and not famous people), and trying as hard as he may to make people laugh.  The best part about this book is that you can hear him reading it to you.  I feel like I’ve seen enough Steve Martin narrated movies to know exactly how he would tell this story.  If you need a little pick-me-up, a little push to get on with doing what you love, read “Born Standing Up.”  It’ll give you a newly restored sense of hope for your own crazy life.
